I believe that one of the things that creates a dull atmosphere in the American media is this idea of impartial reporting. Besides the fact that being totally impartial is a utopia (unless you are an emotionless computer, you will always be influenced by your beliefs and cultural/family heritage), the opinionless journalism is boring and sometimes even ridiculous in its attempts to deliver perfectly “balanced” information. It is the reason for which I decided that I want to be a writer with opinions.

My intention with this article is not to oppose the Democratic ideology and values to the Republican ones, nor to offend any of the voters. What you will read is rather a comparison from the point of view of what I (subjectively) call use of common sense in appreciating the qualities as human beings of the two candidates.
The 2012 presidential elections just ended and I am breathing better now, since at least for the next four years USA, the country I choose to live in and which made me its citizen, is not going to be lead by an ambivalent and a fitness trainer (I honestly had enough economical and political fitness during the 8 years Arnold Schwarzenegger was the governor of California). Looking at the elections results, however, one thing caught my attention: in terms of the popular vote, Barack Obama won by only 1.1%. Don't get me wrong, I am not going to reiterate here the old complain of some political commentators that Obama divided the country. Of course the country is divided: it is the result of something called democracy. In fact last time I lived in a “united” country was in my childhood in communist Romania, where “everybody” was tightly gathered around “The Party” and its “beloved leader”, “commander in chief Nicolae Ceausescu”. I am simply astonished that, in the United States of the year 2012, 1.1% is the only difference between an elegant, secure, intelligent, knowledgeable, authentic man, and a pair of confused guys, a sort of agitated Chip & Dale, who tried to gain votes by rewarming and stirring up the soup of American provicialism, cheap patriotism, and at times even blatant racism. That 1.1% means that 48.7% of the US Citizens who voted are convinced that their life was going to be better off with Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan as leaders of the country. |
But who are these 48.7%?
“Romney’s core supporters were older, evangelical and white. The Republican nominee did better among white voters than any Republican since Ronald Reagan in 1984. [...] Romney scored particularly well among older white men, white women who have not completed college, and rural white males” (as opposed to Obama's “rainbow coalition”: “young voters, citizens with high education, and women”, with a large number of black and Latino voters). (Richard S. Dunham, San Francisco Chronicle, November 3, 2012) Thus, it appears that rural (meaning Jesus, abstinence and virginity obsessed) white men, as well as women with no college education, represent almost HALF of the electoral opinions in the United States of XXI century. Again, I am not trying to be disrespectful, in fact, as Todd Wasserman from mashable.com points out, many of the TV ads against Obama in Ohio “were crude and insulted the intelligence of targeted voters”. But the funny thing is that these voters (some of whom believe that abortion is a crime and should be illegal even if the pregnancy is the result of a rape) chose to vote for a guy who during his presidential campaign was showing off with his pretentious, snobbish hobbies and language (probably his definition of "aristocratic"). And then he would right away try to mask that with a sort of self-centered arrogance, aimed probably at gaining sympathy from NRI members.

But my question is, taking into consideration all these differences and paradoxes: WHO who is other 1.1%?... For sure it does not include porn star Jenna Jameson, who announced in August at a San Francisco strip club that she will definitely vote for Mitt Romney, because “when you’re rich, you want a Republican in office”.

WHICH OF THESE GUYS WOULD YOU CHOOSE AS YOUR PRESIDENT?..
THE ONE WHO HANGS OUT WITH THESE "ARTISTS"?
This pro-Romney artistic event took place in the town of DEFIANCE, OHIO, and the song is no other than "America, The Beautiful": Romney affirms that he is not concerned with 47% of the US voters

OR THE ONE WHO HANGS OUT WITH THIS CROWD HERE?

Have you ever been proud, but I mean really proud, of your President?.. To me it happened late in life,
and funny thing, not in the country I was born.
The most important thing that a human being, a politician and a President can do:
be authentic, be comfortable with himself, which can go a long way beyond political manipulation.
